Definition
A metaphor to describe a situation where you are offered the option of truth and self-knowledge (taking the red pill), as painful as that may be, or instead to remain in blissfull ignorance of information which may well undermine certain of your beliefs and values of the contemporary world you live in. Taken from a scene in the film The Matrix where the hero is offered the choice of a red or blue pill, the latter allowing him to remain at ease and free from any unpleasant truths.
